Description Petr Somol 2012-03-07 09:07:16 UTC
This is an umbrella issue.

The most common screen format today is wide-screen. This is a mixed blessing for developers. On one hand it provides enough space for various panels to be displayed on the left and right of the main work area, on the other hand it effectively limits the vertical space available for the most crucial content - the content of the file being edited.

We have numerous complaints from users and many discussions where the main goal is to maximize vertical space available for editor. This issue is set up to collect ideas for enhancement in this respect. The options might include: auto-hide of various parts of windows, allowing vertical ordering of UI components like toolbars or tab headers, partial hide of status bar, review of component appearance and size, default size of windows or panels, review of the life-cycle of components that temporarily consume vertical space like the Search and Replace bars, etc.

It should be noted though that the possibilities are very limited and generally should not be exploited at the cost of affecting negatively any other aspects of UI usability.
