In a multi-monitor environment, tooltips are displayed on the primary monitor even if the parent window for them is on another monitor. (I will attach a screenshot)
Reassigning to "editor".

Sorry, could you please specify your system configuration and how you've set up your monitors? I cannot reproduce your issue when - on monitor one there is whole IDE - on monitor two there is one editor window dragged from the IDE Product Version: NetBeans IDE Dev (Build 080901) Java: 1.5.0_13; Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM 1.5.0_13-119 System: Mac OS X version 10.5.3 running on i386; MacRoman; en_US (nb)
I got same problem on WinXP. I got laptop and LCD in dual view desktop. NB I started on laptop and then dragged and moved IDE to the right to LCD ... Could it help you?
Yes, thanks for the info. Looks like it's OS specific..
Sorry it took so long to respond... I hate getting inspecific bug reports and find myself giving them out! Netbeans Info: Product Version: NetBeans IDE 6.5 Beta (Build 200808111757) Java: 1.6.0_06; Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM 10.0-b22 System: Windows Vista version 6.0 running on x86; Cp1252; en_IE (nb) System Info: Dell XPS M1330 Laptop Running Windows Vista Ultimate, attached to an external Monitor via HDMI - the Graphics Card is an NVIDIA GeForce 8400M. The primary monitor is the laptop screen, though I usually run the IDE on the external monitor because it is bigger. Description: Tooltips appear in the correct place, but the "Suggest Fix" popups in the IDE always appear on the primary monitor, wedged up against the right side of it as though they are trying to get as close as possible to their correct location, but cannot move out of the primary monitor. Maximising / Dragging the window between monitors has no effect on this behavior. I hope this was helpful.

Perhaps we should try to setup a similar environment and test this in all scenarios that we can think of (eg. displays above each other, next to each other, bigger primary display and smaller secondary, the other way around, detached editor on one display and the rest of the ide on the other one, etc). I know this sounds like a lot of fiddling, but I'm not sure how else we could track this down. As always ideas are welcome...

I've integrated a fix. Jirko, could you please verify -- ideally on Windows XP, Vista and Linux with dual-monitor configuration (next-to setup, not clone). Thank you very much. --- http://hg.netbeans.org/jet-main/rev/5502851be4e9

Integrated into 'main-golden', will be available in build *200905210201* on http://bits.netbeans.org/dev/nightly/ (upload may still be in progress) Changeset: http://hg.netbeans.org/main-golden/rev/5502851be4e9 User: Max Sauer <msauer@netbeans.org> Log: #145804: Tooltips locked to primary monitor
verified in 6.7 rc1
Bug still appears in 7.2 on stock Ubuntu. Tooltips are on correct monitor but hints are on wrong monitor, crammed up against edge.
In case it's relevant, netbeans was started BEFORE the second monitor was added using "xrandr --output VGA0 --auto --right-of LVDS" so if something has cached the GraphicsConfiguration, that will break it.
New bug 221409 raised; related but NOT duplicate of this.
Not fixed on Ubuntu 13.10. Netbeans is on right monitor, tooltips start on the far right side of right monitor, atleast 50% cut-off. Tooltips are shown to the right of my mouse by the exact number of pixels as my left monitor is set to. E.G. Left monitor: 1366x768; Right monitor: 1600x1200; Netbeans maximized on right monitor; Hover over "History" (or any toolbar item); Expect to see tooltip below mouse; Instead, it is 1366 pixels to the right of the left side of the right monitor, which means for long tooltips, it goes off screen into the ether...
Not fixed on Ubuntu 12.04. in Netbeans 8.0. NetBeans on right monitor, tooltips start on the far right side of right monitor, with longer tooltips, for an exaple file paths, can be cropped. E.G. Laptop monitor with an external lcd. Netbeans maximized on right monitor; Hover over "History" (or any toolbar item); Expect to see tooltip below mouse; Instead, it is laptop monitors width in pixels to the right of the left side of the right monitor, which means for long tooltips, it goes off screen into the ether... Product Version: NetBeans IDE 8.0 (Build 201403101706) Java: 1.7.0_51; OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM 24.45-b08 Runtime: OpenJDK Runtime Environment 1.7.0_51-b00 System: Linux version 3.8.0-38-generic running on amd64; UTF-8; en_US (nb)
Hi, I can confirm that this bug is stil in Netbeans 8.0.2 on Ubuntu 14.10 64bit. Java version: [11:07:35] $ java -version java version "1.8.0_31" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_31-b13) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.31-b07, mixed mode) Left monitor is LCD screen 1366x768 and to the right is 1920x1080 monitor (setup as primary that is the one with the launcher). Tooltips show aproximatelly 1366 px to the right when Netbeans are opened on the second screen. And they are showing few hundred pixels to the bottom when Netbeans are on the left screen. Left and right screen are aligned by their bottoms
This old bug may not be relevant anymore. If you can still reproduce it in 8.2 development builds please reopen this issue. Thanks for your cooperation, NetBeans IDE 8.2 Release Boss
Haven't tried in 8.2, but I can confirm this still happens in Netbeans 8.1 installed from the default repository that comes in Ubuntu 16.04.
