Description _ tboudreau 2006-10-02 21:25:39 UTC
It would be much more obvious what the new Run Configuration drop down is, in
the toolbar, if the Run and Debug toolbar buttons were next to it - currently
build and clean are next to it, and these are not affected by Run Configuration,
but Run and Debug (also Profile?) are.
Comment 1 Jesse Glick 2006-10-03 01:26:34 UTC
Not sure I agree with this. (1) The combo will look uglier between buttons. (2)
People should soon discover that configs are only for run profiles in
j2seprojects by the fact that no UI is offered to config anything else. (3)
Configurations do affect building (and even editing) for Java ME projects.
Comment 2 _ tboudreau 2006-10-03 05:24:33 UTC
Nonononono...I'm not saying put it between the buttons. Just swap the positions
of "Build" and "Clean and Build" with those of the "Run" and "Debug" buttons.

Possibly it would be less confusing if everything in that toolbar is something
that will actually be affected by setting the profile, but as this varies across
project types, that's probably not going to fly.
Comment 3 Jesse Glick 2006-10-03 17:36:53 UTC
I don't think swapping the button positions is so good, either - then they will
be backwards vis-a-vis (1) the logical order of operations (build then run), (2)
the order of the corresponding menus.

Jano, do you have any idea. I'm personaly OK with current state.

What I would like to see, as I am right now working with a multi-configuration project, is to have the run button behave
like the debug button and be a split or combo button. This way we can click the down arrow and run any configuration
much easier while still allowing us to change the one which will be run if just the button is clicked. It would be
really nice to have.

I was just setting getting annoyed as I have two configurations I'm testing thinking this would be great and was getting
ready to file an RFE when I found this one. Even if it is something such as switching the run button in and out with the
button like it is and a combo/split button so it can behave this way when a JSE project is the main project. Anyways, it
really is a pain to move to the combo box and then click the configuration we want then hit the button when we have some
project we are having to run multiple times with different classes and testing different things.

Wade: your comment is unrelated to the topic of this issue. In fact there used to be just such a split button (see issue
#90801), but this was removed later (see issue #105664). If you have any feedback, please add it to issue #105664.
