NB IDE lockup whenever I try to browse system files; for example 

1.) File->New Project->General->Java Application->Project Location "Browse"
2.) File->Open Project
3.) File->Open File

This happened on a previous instalation of V4.1 as well

By lockup I mean no responce from the IDE at all must use task manager to 
close it down

Hi,
   could you please generate a thread dump when this situation occurs (please
see http://qa.netbeans.org/bugzilla/generating-thread-dumps.html ) and attach it
altogether with your log file to this bug? Are there any special files in your
home directory?

I have recieved the attached thread dump, which shows also a probable cause of
this issue. The problem seems to be a JDK bug:
