This Bugzilla instance is a read-only archive of historic NetBeans bug reports. To report a bug in NetBeans please follow the project's instructions for reporting issues.
Product Version = NetBeans IDE Dev (Build 200409091800) Operating System = Windows XP version 5.1 running on x86 Java; VM; Vendor = 1.5.0-rc; Java HotSpot (TM) Client VM 1.5.0-rc-b63; Sun Microsystems Inc. Sometimes, during normal work, the IDE disappears for no apparent reason. No message, no exception, nothing written to log - it just vanishes, leaving only lock file in .netbeats as a sign if was ever running. It has already happend to me several times, but unfortunately I see no pattern. I think it's usually when calling some action using a shortcut. I know this bug is hardly possible to fix with this description until you find a way to reproduce it, but maybe if more people will report this issue you will be able to find a pattern.
Has it ever happend to anyone else?
Created attachment 18492 [details] HotSpot error
It disappeared again and I noticed a file that appeared in netBeans install directory (attachment id=18492). Is this something I should report to Sun?

This is a JVM bug that has to be fixed in JDK. Please file a bug at Sun's bugparade. It might be usefull to add a reference here os we can track it.
I've already filed bugparade report (see comment on 2004-10-28), but looks like Sun didn't accept it. Today I've filed another one with more information, hopefully enough to accept it.
do you have a bug number?
The same happens to me, my IDE disappears with no message at random times. I am currently working on quite simple JSP application. Crash happens even when NB is idle and I am working on some other apps. It just silently disappears leaving only Tomcat session running and lock file in .netbeans. Crash happens too often (for me - several times a day) and is very annoying. My OS is Linux with KDE 3.3.1 desktop environment and JDK 1.5 Update1.
Please look at the linked troubleshooting document containing usefull hints about analyzing JDK bugs/problems. Cezariusz: please tell us bug number of a report that you have filled to bugparade. We need you to fill it as we do not have enough information about the environment and how to reproduce the bug. Without this we can't ask JDK team for support. Re manux07: this bug report is about crash on WinOS. It might be better to file a new report. Definitely we can't help you w/o details about your system (sw/hw config) and you should be able to find HotSpot crash report and also a coredump file. These can tell us what is the root of your problem.
As stated before we can't do anything w/o additional data.
As I've said, I had filled error reports twice, including hot spot error logs and the reference to this bug, but neither report had been confirmed by Sun, so I don't have a bugparade number.
Sorry, but there is no such report. I've only found two older bugs (rendering of 'C' and Sans Serif on MS OS) but nothing about JVM crash.
You can't find them Radim, because for some reason they haven't been accepted by Sun. Here's what they say after reporting: This review ID is NOT visible on the "Java Developer Connection" (JDC). Please be aware that the large volume of reports we receive sometimes prevents us from responding individually to each message. We currently have a three week response time for responding to Bug Reports. If the information is determined to be a new bug, or a duplicate of a known bug, you will receive a followup email containing a seven digit bug number. You may search for this bug number on the "Java Developer Connection" (JDC) at this URL: http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/index.html. Fixed by JDK.
