Description dnoyeB 2003-03-21 18:49:04 UTC
All of my projects from 3.4.1 still exhibit the
error described in 28188. This is appearantly due
to the projecs being improperly imported and not
taking into consideration the fix for 28188.
Comment 1 Milan Kubec 2003-03-27 13:46:52 UTC
Let me clarify the issue:

1) Problem happens only after importing entire userdir; doesn't happen
if importing only separate projects.
2) And then happens only when switching from project with closed
editor to project with previously opened editor.

Workaround: Closed editor is not actually closed it's "only" not
displayed, it means that if user opens any file (even already opened)
editor is dislayed with all files opened. Final solution is removing
files .nbattrs and editor.wsmode from folder
{userdir}/system/Windows/WindowManager/Editing after importing the
userdir.

This evaluation is correct.
Comment 3 Patrick Keegan 2003-04-07 16:17:13 UTC
Milan, this is confusing for me, so please read my proposed relnote carefully. :-)

"When you switch back to a project that you were previously working on, the Source Editor does not
display files that you left open when you switched away from that project. This can happen if you have
imported your settings from a previous version of the IDE.

Workaround: Open any file. All of the files that were previously open in the Source Editor will be
opened."

I'm not including the nbattrs and editor.wsmode hack, since I don't think this problem is serious enough
to encourage users to do something where a slip of the mouse might mean other kinds of damage.
Comment 4 Milan Kubec 2003-04-07 16:37:35 UTC
The note is basically OK, but the import of settings is the most
important thing, so it should be mentioned as first. And also you
forgot another important thing: Editor is not opened only if user
switch from project where the editor is closed to project where the
editor was previously opened. Typicaly you finish work, close the
editor and open another project. Maybe you could also mention that the
import is done by Import settings wizard during the first start of IDE.
Comment 5 Patrick Keegan 2003-04-07 16:51:43 UTC
I'd prefer to keep the "symptom"* (what the user sees) as the beginning of the note and then explain the
cause later. Also, I added the part about View | Source Editor not working.

"When you switch from a project where the Source Editor is closed to a project where the Source Editor is
open, the Source Editor does not display files that you left open when you switched away from that
project. In addition, the View | Source Editor menu item is disabled. This can happen if you have
imported your settings from a previous version of the IDE.

Workaround: Open any file. All of the files that were previously open in the Source Editor will be
opened."
Comment 6 Milan Kubec 2003-04-08 12:12:11 UTC
OK, this note seems OK to me.
Comment 7 dnoyeB 2003-04-08 15:17:46 UTC
"When you switch from a project where the Source Editor is closed to a
project where the Source Editor is open..."

Thats not quite right. Should be,
"When you switch from a project where the Source Editor is closed to a
project where the Source Editor *was* open..."
Comment 8 Patrick Keegan 2004-03-03 22:58:22 UTC
I suppose this issue is the same for 3.6 as it was for 3.5?
Comment 9 Jesse Glick 2004-03-19 14:32:55 UTC
Irrelevant under new project system.
