Hi, All! I volunteered to become the Release Coordinator of Netbeans 3.4 bugfix release. Someone references to it as Netbeans 3.4.1, but I don't want it to be another version, because it will contain _no_ new features, only the bugfixes. Therefore I'd like to call it "Netbeans 3.4 update 1". Any objections to the name are welcomed, of course. The "out-of-my-head" plan follows, but I think that it's 100% not correct on dates, because I don't know how long will it take to fix the bugs, that are not fixed yet, and are too annoying to release Update1 without them: * now-10th November - organizational perioud: CVS tagging, talking to netbeans.org Release ingineers, etc. * 10th-20th November - finding the possible bugs/bugfixes, that are _the must_ to go into 3.4U1 * 20th-30th(maybe more) - fixing bugs, checking the bugfixes into the CVS * 1st December - Netbeans 3.4 Update 1 first beta release * 1st - 10th December - QA, user feedback, etc. * 10th December - Netbeans 3.4U1 RC * 20th December - Netbeans 3.4U1 Final Release The plan accomplishment dates will vary greatly depending on your help in some areas. Currently the most needed task, that I'd like to have volunteers in, is to find the bugs in the IssueZilla, which are the most annoying, i.e. - setting priopities. Please, feel free to make this issue depend on your "favorite" bugs.
Maxym, we have set bugs to be fixed in the possible 3.4.1 release by keyword "3.4.1_CANDIDATE". So these issues (30 issues) will be nice to have fixed in "3.4 Update release" and it's good start point for you (in my opinion). Good luck.
It's a planning Issue: What users find the most annoying. Maybe there's a "Netbeans hangs on two CPUs" issue, which doesn't have a test-case, is not able to reproduce, but marked with "3.4.1_CANDIDATE" - I don't think that it's worth fixing it.
Sample report, for the people who want to help. Explanations: * Fixed - is this bug fixed at the moment you add it. * .diff - is the diff info stated in the IssueZilla, e.g. "core/src/org/netbeans/core/projects/SerialDataConvertor.java 1.8 -> 1.9" * QA - the man who tried to include the patch into his own Netbeans 3.4, and verified that it works corectly and doesn't yield to incompatibilities. It's Volunteer QA. ************************** Issue # 26678 I18N - Problems with localized mnemonics Fixed - YES .diff - YES QA: Maxym Mykhalchuk ************************** Issue # 26311 .settings files are parsed 2+ times Fixed - YES .diff - YES QA: Petr Nejedly: I think this safe and benefical fix should be included in 3.4.1 ************************** Issue # 26757 Apply patch doesn't work as expected Fixed - YES .diff - YES QA: Maxym Mykhalchuk **************************
Please call the release "3.4.1" as it stays systematic with the history of the Netbeans releases, also the enumeration is intended to denote different things about the release, one of which is the bugfix level. Not all changes in number imply new features, as I specified on the newsgroup. This is just my detailly nature... so if you decide to call it whatever you think is best, this is just my 2 cents.

To all Voted and subscribed: Thanks you very much for support! 8th December & 9th December Dev builds of Netbeans 3.4.1 contain most of the bugfixes we planned, please test. Sincere, Maxym
Added dependency on issue 29015, even if the same problem is described into 27635 and 28613. This problem is there since 3.4.0 (at least i'm aware since then) and it's rather annoying that tomcat server is not installed correctly. I really would like to see it solved before official 3.4.1.
Too late, Gabriele Garuglieri, I'm sorry but issue 29015 WILL NOT go into 3.4.1 There was a dead-end of proposals long ago - at 30th December
>...long ago - at 30th December and what year?;-))) Maxim, you've probably meant 30th November, haven't you?;-)
Yeah, I was mistaken: Dead line was 30th November 2002, and BTW: candidates should be marked with 3.4.1_CANDIDATE keyword, not block this issue.
NetBeans 3.4.1 FCS is ready to be built and published. Actually the 20th January biuld IS a final one, and I wander why it's not named to be FCS, but it's hopefully only a matter of time. Sincerely yours, Maxym Mykhalchuk, was-release-coordinator of NetBeans Merak
Great Work Maxym You proved that NetBeans is truly opensource project I'm glad that we've got the most stable release of our favourite IDE. Keep it up Sincerely Vano Beridze (just a NetBeans user)
http://www.netbeans.org/ide/download.html Download link for NetBeansIDE-release341-win32.exe points to the wrong file: the size is 250K instead of 29.4MB Thanks!
NetBeans 3.4.1 "Merak" is shipped, so I close this issue. I also remove the dependencies in order not to receive future notifications upon status changes of the issues. If you want to see, what issues have been fixed in 3.4.1, run the following IssueZilla query: netbeans.org/issues/buglist.cgi?target_milestone=3.4.1
