As described at

the execution specification and apis do not seem
to be powerful enough. Please reconsider redesign.

As discussed on the dev@projects alias, the API works for the
complex example given. I'm downgrading the bug to a P3,
but will leave the bug open in case
  (1) somebody can provide a different example which
      the API does not support, or
  (2) somebody can provide suggestions for a new (or modification
      to the) execution API which is better

Closing since nobody addressed (1) or (2). Reopen the bug
if you think of something else.
