Description David Konecny 2012-10-24 20:13:31 UTC
Copied from issue 220439:

Liza, I was wondering about this panel for a while. I think its current design
is too fragmented and cumbersome. For example some templates can be accessed
via second radio choice "Select Archive" and some under third one "Download
Online Template". That's strange, no? especially if you look into details:
second choice allows me to enter URL of a remote template to download and third
choice can contain "Cordova" which is not online template at all. Another
aspect of radio button based UI is that in order to use let say "Initializr:
Bootstrap" you have to do two clicks: first enable third category and then
select the template.

Could we improve it?

I can imagine a single list with all templates (locally defined by user or
online ones; origin could be differentiated via an icon). The first item in the
list would be "No Site Template" (or "Empty"). The last item in the list would
be "Select Other..." which if selected would automatically popup a dialog to
enter URL or Browser for local file and confirming that dialog would simply add
the item to the list of templates and selected it.

What do you think? In long term; for 7.3 it is too late.
