Regardless of disabling Usage Statistics, UI Gestures are always recorded. Are these usage statistics transferred remotely? I don't know. I hope not netbeans. Where can the files be found? .netbeans/7.2/var/log/{uigestures,uigestures.1} The only way to really disable uigesture recording is to disable the IDE Branding plugin.
Super. The IDE Branding plugin cannot be disabled. http://netbeans.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=219303
UI Gestures are always recorded. The data are then used in two cases. 1) When Usage Statistics is on, the data are sent from time to time to the netbeans.org server. 2) When an exception occurs and if you then press "Review and Report Problem" button on the Exception dialog, the exception body, log file and the usage data are sent to the netbeans.org server. We often need this to know what you did in the NetBeans IDE before the exception was thrown, to comprehend what went wrong and possibly to be able to reproduce the issue. But here you can see which data are being sent by pressing "View Data" button. If you decide not to report the problem, nothing is sent.
Ok. It could be <strikethrough>more</strikethrough> transparent. I'm not sure how. Note though, gesture recording can be disabled by disabling IDE Branding plugin.
On Linux UIGesturesCollector cause `sync` syscall each time you press key in editor: https://netbeans.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=270750 I can play music in Netbeans on hard drive!
