See the attached screenshot. I just started the IDE, and after a couple of minutes (long after the initial Java scan) I
closed a couple of files and then wanted to expand the Spring Beans project. I immediately got an "Initializing
project..." message, which doesn't dissapear.

anything in the log files? what version of the IDE?

seems to be duplicate of #128692, please see jtulach's instructions there for tackling the issue.
