Description Joseph Silber 2007-04-30 16:09:32 UTC
(note that I'm in docs and had some assistance finding this - not sure this is
completely right.)

Installation of NB6 - installer looks in HOME/.nbi folder. When an empty
registry.xml file found, NBI is unable to configure the installer and returns an
error message pointing to the most recent entry in the HOME/.nbi/log directory.

Workaround - rename the .nbi directory, or move it to another location and then
relaunch the installer.

I`ve heard about the same issue (zero-sized registry.xml) from time to time on
different platforms. So raising the priority to P1.
Vary investigation is needed...

bishop,
Could you please describe the steps that resulted in such a behaviour?
What builds (numbers and type - basic, standard, full) have you installed
before getting such an exception? Did you use default installation components
or unselected some of the components during installation?
Have you uninstalled any of the previous installations?
Could you please attach all (up to 3) previous logs (from ~/.nbi/log) together
with the last one that contains the exception?

All installations of NB6 have been full builds - they've included (but I don't
think are limited to - I delete older installers periodically)
netbeans-6.0-full-20070412-windows.exe and
netbeans-6_0-daily-bin-200704261800.exe, at least two versions of M8.

I used the default full installation whenever possible.

Have you uninstalled any of the previous installations?
Yes. All previous versions of NB6, but not of 551.

3 previous logs attached.

I've added some improvements to both the registry serialization and loading. Even if an empty registry is discovered, it
will be handled more properly.
