Description javaiware 2001-03-13 05:16:32 UTC
Hi,

When you import a project and then open it for the very first time, a whole
list of exceptions are thrown in many modules. See the attached IDE.LOG.

Really these are dozens of separate bugs, I guess I will take a look at it and
try to extract them from the log file.

Iwan, there are a lot of exceptions I do not recognize in here. Could you be
more exact about what you did to import? Specifically what build number were you
using before, were you using it in single- or multi-user mode, what did you
browse to in the Project import dialog, etc.

Jesse,

Here's what I did:
- I renamed my netbeans user-dir
- I deleted my netbeans directory
- I unzipped beta 1 and started it
- Obviously there's only the default project as it was a virgin installation
- I imported the system\projects\cpanel.xml, which holds all the project-
definitions. These are the projects I use with Dev 136.
- During the import I get exceptions, this I reported in another Issuezilla
- I clicked the exceptions away and opened any of the just imported projects
(not the default one as it was already available)
- Upon clicking the 'Open' button the opening starts and after a while I get
those exceptions I reported in this issue.

Just to be sure that the problems are not caused by the fact that I imported
all projects at once, I did the test again starting of with the virgin
installation. I imported just one project and opened that project, again
exceptions. I don't know if it's the same exceptions because that I didn't
check (I can if you want me to, no problem).
To be sure that it wasn't that particular project I redid the procedure but now
I imported a different project, again the exceptions.

After clicking away the exceptions I can work with the project, but still I get
the exceptions.

Hope this helps, if not let me know. I'll do what I can to help you guys fix
it. If it weren't that I'm working on too many other things, I'd be delving
into the code myself.

Iwan

OK, assigning to projects module since it occurs after using the Import
facility. With 3.2 you are supposed to just be able to reuse your (multi-user)
user directory with the new builds, and I look after bugs in that currently, but
I have no idea what Import Project actually does.
Comment 8 David Strupl 2001-04-02 13:54:32 UTC
There are a lot of issues involved in this report.
1. importing all NetBeans projects at once caused troubles - it is the first
exception in this report. This should be fixed now.
2. some nbfs: related problems - these should be also fixed by now (I am not
sure about this one though)
3. having less modules in your new installation - these get printed as
exceptions but should be harmless (you are "only" loosing the settings for the
non-installed modules). The exceptoins should be summarized in project error dialog.
So marking this one as fixed - could you please test the behaviour with a new
build and if there are any problems attach the log again (and reopen the issue).
Thanks for your help.

Resolved for 3.4.x or earlier, no new info since then -> closing.
