The UML design area has an extra lowered bevel border (judging from the 2px depth perhaps two of them) surrounding the design component; it adds visual noise to the UI. The appearance should be made consistent with the text editor and other editors within NetBeans. (Backstory - in NetBeans 3.6 a lot of work went into removing extraneous borders from all parts of NetBeans' UI - "border buildup" is a common problem in Swing UIs since many components come with borders and sit adjacent to other components with their own borders).
removed the lowered bevel border in the design area, also changed uml diagram toolbar to use common NB editor toolbar border.
looks good now in trunk build 20070914.
