Description R Ramos 2006-12-28 10:04:46 UTC
Support known (and good looking) look and feels like JGoodies and Synthetica,
as well as Windows Vista is now supported in 6.0: Tabs, toolbars, and further
custom NetBeans swing components. NetBeans (RCP) doesn't feel like a Swing App
if look and feels are poorly supported or not supported at all. This issue
impedes the acceptance of Nb and frustrates users. NB is not the only choice,
as we all know. It's a little shame if Eclipse can be run under EclipseOnSwing
and then they have better swing look and feel support than NB.
I can even imagine NB IDE having an own look and feel based on synthetica,
just like JDeveloper, MagicDraw or others have their owns based on jGoodies.
This is important.

Agreed that good support for LFs is important, however this is more overall RFE
then concrete defect, so I'm changing to umbrella enhancement. We do care about
LFs and we are working on that, but it's natural we can't support all existing
LFs directly. NetBeans now have good support for Win LF, Vista, Aqua, Metal and
we are working on GTK LF support, for Linux and Solaris world.
Please enter concrete errors where NetBeans doesn't look good separately, as
subissues, thank you.

Some issues concerning the GTK LaF support. I have attached a picture of NB
running under the GTK LaF and some theme. I have highlighted the problem zones.
1. The first one is about the ugly icons used in the tab selector of the editor.
2. The second concerns the x and arrow used in the non editor tabs. They are
always black, they should change color with the theme. Also the shading of the
tab upper part does not always fit. The best would be if they would adapt to the
current form of the tab, but it may be easier to remove the shading completely
(although it's cool).
3. The third one is the color and the font style of the editor gutter. They
don't adapt to the theme or desktop settings (and to all unsupported LaFs?)
4. The font used in the editor status bar. It doesn't fits to the desktop
settings either.
