Description Jim Light 2001-01-17 18:43:44 UTC
I received a null pointer error while typing in a package name (ColorSwitch)
while doing the ColorSwitch tutorial. The dialog asked me to supply the ide.log
file, which I have ready to send, but how do I send it with this form?

I'm lost. I would like to help, but nothing I have encountered on the specified
web site makes it clear what I am supposed to do. I cannot figure out what to
query on to find out if this bug exists or has a workaround. I will attempt to
send the ide.log file to bugmaster@mail.netbeans.org. This is probably wrong,
but I don't know wht else to do.

Thanks for any help you can render.

As I see in the attached log file, you have both JDK and Forte installed in
"Program Files". The space in the path can be a cause of many problems. Could
you please reinstall JDK and Forte to a path without spaces?
I hope this will solve your problem.
Please, write additional comments to this bug what the results of the
reinstallation were.

Regardless of whether it was installed in a dir with spaces, the IDE should now
throw NPE from some random class somewhere, it should say "please do not put me
in a directory with space" (or work!). This appears to be a core bug.

Can someone please change the priority and/or severity appropriately?
Comment 4 Jim Light 2001-01-18 22:11:59 UTC
I reinstalled the JDK and Forte in the default directory suggested by the
installer instead of the Program Files directory and the problem is gone. I
will leave it up to you as to whether a caveat about spaces in the directory
name is worth documenting during the install (the release notes or readme is
too late). I will leave the status as NEW and let you decide whether further
action is needed before closing it, but I'm inclined to think that the
inability to handle blanks in a path name is a bug. Your call.
In any event I am operational and satisfied with the result.
Thanks for you prompt reply to this issue. - Jim Light (jhlight@aol.com)
