If I select a file in the project tab and right click it, I get a context menu with both a delete and remove action. One removes the file from the project and the other deletes the file. This was probably a poor choice, but the remove was the initial action and delete was added from customer feedback. Suggested fix: Combine the 2. Have a Delete... which brings up a dialog box with 2 toggles, one for removing the file from the project and the 2nd for deleting the file from disk (which are set by default is TBD). This seems like a simple way to combine the 2 without loosing the capability of either.

will not fix in 5.5.1. Downgrading to p3.
Decided to have to actions: Remove From Project (was just Remove) Delete It should now be obvoius what they do. See also http://www.netbeans.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=101086
