The font used in the ouput window(s) should be configurable. Font size would be nice as well, and also the font styles and colors of the syntax highlighting (like red for error output and blue/underline for error/warning "links"). The default serif font is not particularly readable, it should at least be possible to change this. I remember that this was actually an option in NetBeans 4 and/or 3 (there was an "Output Window" item under Options -> System -> Look & Feel).
We received many comments from NetBeans users locally. They hope the font style and font size of output window could be better in next release. Of course it would be nice to be able to customize fonts like Editor. Currently in NB6.0 raising the fontsize to 12 makes the ML characters look better but doesn't help English characters much. You can see from the screenshot.

see also 114017, which I believe can be a good first step - providing font choice for the rest of the ide besides editor. also note that for some OS, if --fontsize option is not used, then some parts of ide (but not ow I think) follow the os font settings for certain things, but its not complete, which is why 114017 can be helpful However, editor has ways to customize the font name and size for many, many parts of the editor, see options->fonts and colors section. am adding rehte to the cc list, who provided for 114017 some very helpful information. as to 113691, which is related to this topic, it provides more info and comparison about the zh fonts and sizes. I think it depends on OS and font size as to if zh font is ok or not; in past the zh font was not ok on some unix at fontsize 12 and was hardcoded to 14; but I was told that for nb6 this would not be needed and default font size is ok ? Can this be clarified ? ken.frank@sun.com
Chinese users reported this issue: Output window font size is too small and font is not good, no way to change them.
Will, in other discussions, it was mentioned that for nb6, that the default font size was now ok for Chinese users, unlike in past where it needed to be 14 point, and was hardcoded in the bundle file for the translated release. Is that not really the situation, or is it just about the output window font and no other nb window fonts ? ken.frank@sun.com
Hi, Ken That's true the IDE font with default size is better. At least on Windows, the IDE font is much better than before. It loads Window system font configuration. But the Editor and Output window still load JDK default font, which is Monospaced type. The good thing is we can change the Editor font and its size inside IDE Options, but we couldn't change the font type and size of Output window. That's what the users want to have. If JDK could set its default font to "Dialog", that would also make things better. But we don't know if they care about this font issue. Rebecca
I've seen other input from community in other related issues about whole area of being able to specify about font name and size for ide itself, since so far only editor has specific font name and size setting. thus having this one done for ow would be helpful also even if entire ide one not done, since ow is a common place where much text is written that might be in other languages. could this be considered for 6.1 ? ken.frank@sun.com
