Description twolf2919 2006-09-22 13:29:08 UTC
Since the beginning of this week (or maybe late last week?) I've noticed a
strange thing: when I come to the office in the morning and start up the PC and
then NB, more often than not NB will hang after finishing loading modules (see
screenshot). Doing 'top', shows it using 99% of the CPU - but nothing happens.
I have to kill the process and try again. The second time, it invariably
succeeds. I checked the messages.log (attached) and there's no indication of
any problem - the last module to show is the 'beans' module. So far, I've
installed 3 dailies trying to get rid of the problem, but no luck so far.

Please provide a thread dump of the hang:

I will get the thread dump as soon as I can reproduce. I initially thought it
happens whenever I first start NB after a reboot. But when I did, I could not
reproduce. Maybe I have to let the PC rest for awhile and then try again. I'll
have the thread dump by monday no doubt :-)

Here is the promised thread dump. Please let me know if there's anything else I
can do. It looks like it pretty much only happens the first time you power up
the machine (i.e. when I tried a restart, that wasn't enough.)

This is the third time we've got this should-be-impossible-to-happen, but it is
the first time somebody claims to be able to reproduce. Great!
I mark this as dup of issue 82914, cc: you there and continue with more info there.
