From my experience mysql which has about 740 source files requires 1024 Mb to be
able to work (P1 IZ filed for OutOfMemory for mysql with 512 Mb).  
Python (78 files) requires 512 Mb or OutOfMemoryError occurred.

The user needs to modify -Xmx in
<NETBEANS_ROOT>/etc/netbeans.conf
