Description Stanislav Aubrecht 2006-08-15 15:37:50 UTC
consider adding a new option/switch to the enhanced windows system to always
open a given TopComponent in floating mode by default.
additionally it would be nice if the TopComponent couldn't be docked back to the
main window, i.e. it would only be either floating or closed.

This ticket is taken as part of the First Patch Program. See milestones here: http://wiki.netbeans.org/First_Patch

Just checking in for the First Patch program... I didn't see an implementation plan posted, though I realize sometimes this is done through e-mail between the mentor and developer. I'd appreciate it if you could let me know which milestone you're at according to this page:

  http://wiki.netbeans.org/First_Patch#Program_Milestones_and_Schedule

and if you're stuck, just let me and/or your mentor know and we'll do our best to help.

Tom, you're right, we're exchanging information via mail. Right now we're on milestone 1.5. According to the Tim's suggestions, I'm understanding the guts of the Window System starting by getting my hands on the FAQ [1]. I had split the current enhancement into two taking into account the follow up by saubretch [2].
