Problem in NB 5.0 final. Steps to reproduce: 1. Go to Help | Help Contents 2. Search for "About J2EE Application Development" topic. 3. The topic content includes a link that no longer exists: http://www.netbeans.org/kb/articles/quickstart-j2ee-41.html I think the page should be re-created or replaced with a sensible re-direct.
Ken, since John is on vacation, could you do the following?: *figure out the appropriate link and ask Jack to create the redirect to that link *check to make sure this still isn't broken in the 5.5 builds
i have created a redirect for the page for users of NB5. it redirects now to NetBeans IDE 5.0 Quick Start Guide for J2EE Applications In usersguide, i have removed the page with the link. I am leaving this issue open until we decide if we need to address this in the 5.5 docs. we currently do not have an equivalent page for 5.5/using EE5. This could be recreated as a doc pointing to the EE5 learning trail, but need to agree that such a general about topic is appropriate for the docs.
I am downgrading the priority to P4 as the broken link is technically fixed but still want to track this. this will be "fixed" for 5.5
revisiting: the page with the link is not in the 5.5 release. so only users of 5.0 are affected the redirect for 5.0 users currently points to: NetBeans IDE 5.0 Quick Start Guide for J2EE Applications [ /kb/50/quickstart-j2ee.html ] Do we want to update the redirect to something else for 5.5? i dont think we have a similar doc? do we want to point to EE Learning trail? if we are not going to change anything, then we should close this issue
Redirecting to the learning trail is a good idea, esp. since the learning trail links are permanent (not release version-based)
closing issue. i have updated the redirect page to point to the java ee learning trail page. we have to watch to make sure we dont have too many of these refresh/redirect pages. perhaps we could have webteam put in some general redirect for all 404s in kb dir to point to kb home page.
