Netbeans seems to start, but there are Exceptions in the background (Icon bottom/right). It says that the messages.log File is to be submitted as an ISSUE. Due to these exceptions debugging and running of applications is not possible. The shutdown of the IDE generates monster message.log Files. Killing the shutdown-IDE task yielded the shorter log-file I append to this issue. This is the zip-Distribution as suggested to overcome the installshield-problem!

Reassigning to "installer" for evaluation.
Do you start with empty user dir? (User dir is at C:\WINDOWS\.netbeans\5.0) It looks like MDR has some problem with its repository. Reassigning to MDR for evaluation. It has nothing to do with installer as it was installed using zip.
I deleted the userdir. Netbeans showed the minus sign in the lower right corner again. I'll attach the messages.log and a directory listing of the new userdir.

It looks like installation is corrupted. Could clean everything and start installation again? Thanks
I am closing all reports in category Java/Unsupported as wontfix. These should be dead issues --- if the reported cases are against some live part of the NetBeans IDE please reopen and we can discuss to which category they belong.
