While the file /Applications/NetBeans.app is a directory to Unix users, it is not a directory to Macintosh users. The field label on the installation page (installation wizard - page three) should probably be changed.
How to change it? Why is not NetBeans.app directory? How is it called on Mac?
I don't know. This document may have some answers for you... http://developer.apple.com/documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/OSXHIGuidelines/XHIGInstallationsUpdates/chapter_9_section_3.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40002722-DontLinkElementID_17 My guess, since I am just a user (I don't write installers for Mac OS X products professionally), is that the installer should be asking where the users wants to install the NetBeans application and copy/create/whatever the NetBeans.app "directory" into that location.
you gaotta be kidding on the target milestone... It is going to take you until promo-g to change a label in the installer. We gotta get you a better tool-kit for installer development.
Sorry. No kidding. It is simply after core freeze so no changes (even simple like this) but showstoppers are allowed to go to NB 5.0 branch.
Correct. This is not a showstopper.
We use this approach (ie. installation path contains also NB directory for all other supported platforms). We do not have any other complaints about this from Mac users. For now I close this issue as WONTFIX. If I understand you correctly you suggest we should display only parent of NB install dir eg. /Applications or /Users/<user name> and create "NetBeans.app" in selected directory? Is it right? If not I do not understand what you mean.
