Description clever 2005-09-30 03:50:03 UTC
The most intuitive way to add a database to "Databases" is to right click
"Databases"... I naturally look for "Add...". I don't see it.

After stumbling, I find the "Connect using.." against a specific driver.

I'd like to have some use case analysis.. I feel the addition of "Add.." to the
"Databases" node would be a more intuitive UI.

This action was there, but it was removed in the faith that it leads to better
GUI :-) I don't have a strong opinion about this, although I do feel that an Add
Connection action on Databases makes the functionality easier to find.
Reassigning to HIE for evaluation.

This is described as usability finding "[EE-24] Not clear how to connect to
database" in the March 2006 usability study:

http://ui.netbeans.org/usability/java_ee_March_2006/report.html

Should be fixed for 5.5.
