When using the Ctrl-Tab popup, it would be nice if the popup window were 2-column. The left column is the filename and the right column is the directory of the file. This is especially important when working on mulitiple files of the same name in different directories. This happens often in my projects. The dialog should be centered on the main window.
probably useful...
But be aware that when there are a lot of files opened they already could be shown in more than one column. Moreover you can already see the full path in the status bar. So -1 from me.
Exactly. -1 from me too. Generally users would like to see full path only for selected item, so perhaps good solution is some form of small overllaping popup window, showing path just for selected item. Status line is probably too far away for this type of into, just minority of people notices it IMHO.
Ah! The directory in the status bar is just OK. I would prefer to see a circular scrolling list instead of multiple columns when lots of files are open. This would allow a secod column for the directory name. Seeing the directory in the status bar at least lets you see the directory, but I agree it's too far away...in fact, I missed it! Not optimial, I argue, but minimally sufficient. I disagree that users want to see the directory of only the selected item. I have this same issue with the Documents dialog. What I really want is functionality similar to Emacs' 'Ctrl-x b' buffers list. If I have a lot of files open, I can perform searches on the directory name, not just the filename. And I can search based on file type. This makes it easer then moving one item at a time through a large list to find the item I want.
This has to be probably decided by out HIE folks since I suppose that this feature is used very often and should be carefully considered. Please Jano take a look at dmocek's idea, consider and eventually reassign back. Thanks.
The document popup switcher in recent releases shows full file path at its bottom.
