The "XSL Transformation..." menu item claims web.xml and (Ant) build.xml are not XML files. They clearly and obviously are, though. I had to change the root element name and namespace before this utility would recognize my target XML. Perhaps this is related to the fact that some XML-related actions are dropped from the contextual menus of these files -- which I've seen other bugs for. Whatever the case, however, this is *extremely* obnoxious and a major productivity issue when one is trying to test and author XSLT which targets the automatic modification of web.xml and/or build.xml files. Note this issue occurs irrespective of whether the web.xml and build.xml files have any relationship to the project, e.g. whether the web.xml or build.xml are "the" project's web.xml or build.xml -- or just another file somewhere.
Which actions are accessible on particullar nodes is up to the actions provider module. So this is not a XML module bug that these actions are not visible on ants files or some deployment descriptors. IMO these files are a kind of higher level support so low-level actions are not provided. Reassigning to Milan Kuchtiak - web.xml support author and CCing Jesse Glick - author of the ant files support.
I agree that XSTL Transformation can be useful even for web.xml or build.xml files. I am transforming this bug into 2 separate enhancements: - issue 69860 - issue 69861 *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 69860 ***
