At the URL above there should be a long history of news posts, stretching back
years, but they're all missing :-(  

I did a quick check and found the same is true on other project sites, eg 
http://vcscore.netbeans.org/servlets/ProjectNewsList
http://openide.netbeans.org/servlets/ProjectNewsList
...

Similar issue to the missing files in ProjectDocumentList maybe ?
