Description Petr Jiricka 2004-08-13 09:51:16 UTC
I must say I did not find the current window
sliding functionality not very useful, and it does
not behave the way I would expect it to.

The major motivation I have for sliding a window
to the side is to free up screen estate for other
windows, such as the editor. However, sliding the
"Projects" explorer tab to the side does not
accomplish this goal, because the "Files" and
"Runtime" tabs are still present, so no screen
estate is really gained. To free up space for the
editor, I also have to slide the "Runtime" and
"Files" tabs, which is extra 2 clicks. It should
be possible to accomplish this with just one mouse
click.

Or did I completely misunderstand the purpose of
the sliding windows feature?

done according to spec.
reassigning to dusan.

Ok, I am also changing the summary to better reflect what I am
actually asking for.

This functionality exists already in the IDE. Try doubleclick on
Editor's TAB or shortcut SHIFT+ESCAPE.
Comment 4 Petr Jiricka 2004-08-13 14:23:20 UTC
Ok, this is similar to what I want, but not quite the same:

- Sometimes I want to hide the explorer, but not the output window,
e.g. when I a fixing compilation errors. Your suggestion will hide
both the explorer and the output window.

- Doubleclicking on the tab, or pressing Shift+Escape is not
discoverable. This is a problem that many users have with our IDE -
functionality is there, but users never find it. The sliding windows
feature is more discoverable, because there is a widget on the screen
that the user immediately sees.

- If I can't easily use the sliding windows feature to enlarge the
editor screen area, what can I use it for then? Why would the user
ever want to slide the "Projects" tab to the side? What benefit does
it bring to the user?

Comment 7 Stanislav Aubrecht 2013-09-05 07:51:30 UTC
Now it's possible to slide the whole group of non-document windows to enlarge the editor area.
