after adding a working dir via the Versioning
Manager the VCS node appears for the dir, but
attempts to open the dir in both the Versioning
and Favorites windows report errors...

What error does it report? Isn't this a duplicate of issue #44655?

perhaps its related, but its different - issue 44655 had to do with the fact that CVS actions 
weren't available when right-clicking file nodes in the Favorites window, whereas they had 
been previously...

issue 45090 has to do with the actual file nodes visability themselves - once a local 
directory has been registered with the Versioning Manager i can't open it and clicking the 
directory's lever (or double clicking it) causes the error...
