Description clever 2004-06-11 18:25:01 UTC
[ As seen in NB 4.0Dev (2004040608) ]
Currently, when I try to open an existing web
project, I am unable. I try to create a new
project from existing sources and the screen I see
is slightly confusing.

Assuming that a user has an existing project
folder, with a subfolder for the web app sources,
there are some assumptions being made that are
counter productive. For instance:

- It is not obvious that it will copy the sources
to the new 'project' folder.
- I would like to be able to edit my existing
project sources in my current development directory.
(One of the advantages to NetBeans is that it has
always allowed me to mount a folder with existing
sources and let me continue development. FOlks
with other IDE's may not take too kindly to having
to re-point their IDE to the NB project to
continue development)

I think the biggest problem for me is that there
is no easy way to simply point NB at my current
work folde. (It has CVS already configured and my
other editors all know it at this location)

Could we remove the need to create a new project
folder when using existing sources? THis seems
like a pretty big deal for anyone working on an
existing project.

I stand corrected. It didn't copy the sources (as I expected it to
do).. however, I did manage to create a directory "Project Name" at
the same location as the directory containing the source I already
had. This is definately confusing. Now I will remove the project I
created and have to create a new one called "Netbeans Project Folder"
just for my existing project folder to remain coherant. I guess this
is just a matter of intuitiveness vs. usability.

Jirko, could you please look at it? It seems to be a valuable feedback.

Reassigning to Jano, who works on Java EE.

This old bug may not be relevant anymore. If you can still reproduce it in 8.2 development builds please reopen this issue.
