If any UI other than the default is used for 
Netbeans by using the -ui switch in the ide.cfg 
file eg.
-ui 
com.sun.java.swing.plaf.windows.WindowsLookAndFeel

then the AutoUpdate component causes a null 
pointer error directly after connecting to all 
the update centers and before displaying the 
available updates.

ide.log is attached.
