Description ats37 2003-10-09 17:36:58 UTC
I'm using NB 3.5.1. Overall I find the abbreviations quite handy, but there's one that's really bugging me. Every time I try to type "you're " in a comment, it comes out as "you'return "...
Okay, so I could just change the abbreviation to, say, "ret" instead of "re". However, if I type "more " that doesn't get mangled in this way, so it seems to me that the real problem is the apostrophe is being treated as a word break when it shouldn't.
Comment 1 Jan Pokorsky 2004-02-18 13:47:05 UTC
Reassigned to editor for evaluation.
Comment 2 Miloslav Metelka 2004-02-18 15:39:08 UTC
Abbreviations treat apostrophe as separator which is the reason why it
gets expanded after typing you're.
Besides changing 're' abbrev you can also use Shift+SPACE which will
type space without expanding of the abbreviation.
Is that acceptable workaround for you?
Comment 3 pfelenda 2004-03-04 17:52:38 UTC
The abbreviation works as expected. If you want, the abbreviations
don't work in comments, then please fill a separate enhacement.

Other workarounds are create e.g. this abbreviation yr="you're",
or remove the "re" from abbreviations.

Can be this issue closed?

It seems inefficient to close this issue only to open another one for the enhancement request. Instead, I've downgraded this from a bug to an enhancement; trust that's okay?

Ok, thanks.
