I am getting an error message when installing release 34 
that says it can not find a suitable Java VM.  I have the 
Java SDK installed in C:\j2sdk1.4.1_01 which should 
include the VM.  I have tried to force the java home 
directory using the -is:javahome switch, but it still 
fails.

It is known bug. Please, look at issuezilla if there isn't appropriate
isssue before you file new one.

It is possible to use newer version of IDE and its installer should
work with jdk1.4.1_01. Please, try to use for example Q-build, you can
download it on :http://www.netbeans.org/devhome/download.html .
