Using NetBeansIDE-dev-200212110100 with JDK 1.4.1_01. NPE 
occurs during startup and shows up visually and in 
ide.log. Attaching the exception.

Hm, looks like tomcat home dir (catalina_home) doesn't contain  "work"
directory. Could you confirm it?
Or do you use multiuser inst. of Tomcat (= base dir != home dir)? In
that case - does base dir contain "work" dir? Did you use internal Tomcat?

This is probably a duplicate of 26570. Thomas, can you 
please tell us what software you used to unpack the build ?

Also, can you please try in a more recent build ?

I used WinZIP.
Unfortunately, I lost the content of my hard disk 
yesterday, so I cannot verify anything about my user 
directory. Sorry.
