The ide.ico is red, while the new Netbeans stile is blue
Created attachment 6932 [details] Proposed ide.ico
Bruce can you sanity-check this icon? You can reassign to me to commit to 3.4 sources.
Note however that core/src/org/netbeans/core/resources/ideImage.gif is still the old red icon, but I cannot see anywhere that this is used - I will delete it in the trunk. We also have core/src/org/netbeans/core/resources/frames/ide{,32,48}.gif which are used in the About dialog; can compare to these.
I delivered the correct blue ICOs in the following sizes to Richard Gregor a couple of weeks ago: 48x48 32x32 16x16 The red icon is not to be used anywhere. Jesse, if you need these again, or if you need the 24x24 size for some reason, let me know and I'll email them or attach to this issue. best, b.
Richard, status?
The icons that the IDE uses for: - window icon - application icon (on desktop + start menu) are both the correct new blue icons that Bruce delivered. There is some strange Windows bug which because of some icon caching still displays the old red icon if NB was previously installed - if you click Properties and Change Icon, you will see the blue one, but selecting it does not change anything (Win 2000) I assume this bug should be closed and new one created for the caching issue, unless I misunerstood the text of this bug.
Umm, core/release/bin/icons/ide.ico is clearly the old red icon. core/release/bin/icons/web.ico uses the old red logo too. core/release/bin/icons/ide2.ico might be wrong, but I cannot display it on Linux with ImageMagick, so I don't know. If these icon files are not in fact used at runtime for anything, then they should be deleted to reduce confusion. (I assumed they were used for runide.exe's appearance?)
Jesse is right. Several .ico files are included in the installation under <ide>/bin/icons. I guess that they used to be used by the installer to associate NB icons to README, RELNOTES, and NB shortcut on the desktop. Because the .exe files do not have icons (intentionally to make it brandable), even the new installer _must_ use an icon from somewhere else to make a desktop shortcut. The old installer used the icons in <ide>/bin/icons.
Hello, since Richard is on vacation, I'll take a look at this bug. At the first glance it seems to be very easy to fix - just to replace old icons in [ide]/bin/icons by new (blue) ones. As I can see in installer sources, [ide]/bin/icons/ide.ico is written into Windows registers as a default icon for Java files, so it can be used for a desktop shortcut as well. Or did I miss something?
Fixed in main trunk.
OK...Correct icons are on that place, where should be.
Integrated into release34 branch.
verified in [nb_release34_rc2](20020809) <netbeans>/bin/icons/ : ide.ico and web.ico is right, but there is still ide2.ico isn't right, perhaps this icon should not be a part of IDE .
The ide2.ico is probably not used anywhere. If nobody objects, I will remove it from the trunk.
ide2.ico has been removed from main trunk.
I suggest that ide2.ico is not removed from NB 3.4 at this point. If it's not used anywhere, then it cannot do any harm. However, I heard some comments that ide2.ico might still be used as a desktop icon on OS/2. Not sure if it's true, but I think we'd better leave it in NB 3.4 and remove it from future versions.
Gili, please confirm whether ide2.ico is actually needed by the OS/2 launcher or not. If it is not, I guess we can delete it on the CVS trunk?
Clarification: ide2.ico is an OS/2-style icon generated from ide.ico a few months back. OS/2 users cannot make use of ide.ico (Windows-style icon) so please do *not* remove ide2.ico I assume you'd like ide2.ico updated. I can convert ide.ico to OS/2-style ide2.ico for you or you can do it yourself using the program found at www.pmview.com. Please let me know, Gili
Hi Gili, I've just downloaded PMView, converted ide.ico to OS/2 format and commited it to CVS main trunk as ide2.ico. Since I don't have OS/2 here, could you please verify that the icon is correct now? Thanks.
shouldn't we rename ide2.ico to something more informative, say, ide-os2.ico?
Created attachment 7096 [details] Last ide2.ico look strange, so I repaired it and there is new one.
Last attachment of OS/2 icon is fine, except that the borders are not transparent. I took the proposed ide.ico (first attachment) and converted it to OS/2 format (looks nice!) and I'm attaching it here.
Created attachment 7100 [details] OS/2 icon based upon proposed icon file
Several icons have been created and will be posted here and to the source within a day or so. XPM for Solaris PNG for Linux ICON for Mac
Created attachment 8480 [details] zip file with all icons for xpm, png, and OS X formats
Created attachment 8497 [details] Updated OS/2 icon based upon PNGs, made background transparent
I've committed a new set of icons from Bruce and Gili into the CVS trunk. Had to fix sizes of xpm icons from Bruce. See bin/icons/nb*
