I've docked Output window to Editor [botom] and then executed some ant scripts and classes. Output from first execution was dumped to docked OW and the rest to newly opened OW, so I had actually two OWs. Happens in SDI and MDI as well.
The new output tab is always opened in the output mode, what you have moved is not output window, but the output (standard) tab, which is topcomponent only. Probably, there could be always when opening new output tab, necessary to find the were reside othre already opened output tabs. Well that's a question for UI if such a policy is better than current one -> adding UI keyword. Anyway, the possible solution must be taken by owner of the output tab TopComponent. Reassigning.
As Peter mentioned, you docked only one output tab, not output mode. That's as designed behaviour.
