Description thomashcampbell 2015-03-05 05:20:39 UTC
When I start NetBeans on my Mac it opens up the Window on my external monitor at the very top. I can't do anything because half of the window is unreachable. I have to go and "Reset Windows" and even then, I have to click on the green button to "maximize" the window (but makes the other windows dark) and then unmaximize it. Then I can hold the Alt key down and click the green button to maximize it properly.

I have to do this every time I start netbeans.

Are you running OSX 10.10.2? Did you have this problem prior to this update?

I was running into this problem after the 10.10.2 update with 8.0.1 and upgraded to 8.0.2 and got the same issue.

On further experimentation I discovered that if you go into your display settings/arrangement and change the orientation of the macbook native display in regards to the display you have netbeans on, you can change the location of the netbeans window. For me, centering the native display instead of having it slightly above caused it to center netbeans on my external monitor.

I have the same issue running OS X 10.10.2 with Netbeans 8.0.2 on Java 1.8.0_11. Netbeans wouldn't allow me to position the window above the top of my primary / main display even though the Netbeans window was on the external display.

I worked around it by changing the "primary" display from the primary to the external and back:

1) Go to System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement
2) Drag the small white bar from primary / main display to the external display
3) Wait for the displays to finish repositioning your windows
4) Drag the small white bar from the external display to the primary / main display

Doing it this way allowed me to keep my original display arrangement

Yeah, OK, I'm starting to see what's wrong... it seems as long as the "menu bar" is on the laptop display the external displays won't display correctly. If it's on either of the external displays (I have two of the same size) it works just fine. It seems as though when you "maximize" the NetBeans window that it uses the resolution from the "menu bar" display.

No other application does this however.
