I tried to install NetBeans using the Ubuntu Software Center, but the latest version is netbeans 7.0.1+dfsg1-5ubuntu2.

Please update or remove it; Netbeans 7 is very outdated.

File an issue for the maintainers of "Ubuntu Software Center"!

There is nothing what can be done from NB side.
