Description kjmcdonald 2002-05-09 05:16:01 UTC
Hi all.

First I'll admit that I came to NB from xemacs. I
find though
that I use the search feature of NB *much* less
than I used
it in xemacs. There are a few reasons for this:

1. A minor one. While I like the color
highlighting of all the
matched that are found. It is annoying that
they stay around
   even after I'm done searching.

2. The search window, while probably needed more
for search and
replace, is big and many times covers up the
source you're trying
   to read through.

I'd like at least the option for something quick
and easy like the
search in the bottom line of the xemacs window
that you get with
CTRL-S and CTRL-R, and the ability (after you've
typed what you're
looking to match) to continue to hit CTRL-S and
CTRL-R to step
through the matches, and even reverse direction.

The Editor has it's own status bar (which is
probably currently
Read Only right?) which ideally could be used for
this.

ad 1. You can use Alt+Shift+H to turn it off (toggle).
ad 2. Yes we are aware of that. In general we would like to support an
editor mode similar to emacs where this would be the default but still
it should be available in the nb-native mode too.
 Now it's
necessary to move the find dialog e.g. to the left (over the explorer)
so that it does not cover the editor visible area.

Addition to the previous note: The find dialog should remember its
position even when it's closed and then reopened.

I think i have noticed that the window will remember it's location.

I suppose in the absence of being able to get a smaller search entry
area like xemacs, it would be useful to be able to 'dock' the current
search window into the others, so that it doesn't cover anything on
the screen and could maybe be left there all the time.

I didn't know about Alt+Shift+H for clearing the highlight. I'd also
like to suggest that that be a button on the search window, and
possibly also a button on the editor toolbar.

There is "Higlight Search" checkbox in the Find dialog.
According to the current editor toolbar proposal it is planned:

We've got the search bar now. For find & replace there is still the old dialog though. Hopefully we will merge it into
the search bar one day. I think we can close this as fixed. If you find some problems with the new search bar please
open a new ticket. Thanks
