It is very annoying to loose all plugins with each upgrade to a new version of Netbeans. Some users have a large number of plugins and different plugin sources and it takes time to figure out which one had and then re-configure, re-download and re-install each of them. Why can't Netbeans just save the list of plugin names and their sources as well as the list of update centers in the preferences and when the user is prompted to import the settings from an earlier version, offer to import that list too? The plugin manager could then give the user the option to re-install plugins that were present in an earlier version from their remembered sources or just tell the user where the plugin was downloaded from if a manual installation is required. Plugins are an important part of what makes Nebeans great, but so far there seems to be no support whatsoever for maintaining the plugin settings when upgrading to a new Netbeans version.
