the new package dialog has changed (open a context menu in the explorer and select new | package). why the change? the wizard look for a dialog is not necessary. i can see where this might be a logical step from an architectural point of view, but it looks utterly wrong here. additionally, the wizard dialog isn't even done well... it says 'name object' and gives little indication that a package is what will be created.
It was discussed on nbui. The result was that the package is created from template. I assume it means using New wizard. Please look at issue 10476.
the issue discussed on nbui was of a different nature: that a package entry to the 'new' menu should be added and that that there was once a package template. it does not say that the new package dialog should use the n.f.t. wizard. the bug report does not say that either. so, my original comment is correct: the package template is an architectural thing that needs a different ui. a simple dialog asking for package name will suffice: +--------------------------------------+ | ____________________ | | Package Name: |____________________| | | ____ ________ | | |_Ok_| |_Cancel_| | +--------------------------------------+ the same would apply for 'folder' since that uses the wizard dialog as well.

HIE/UI need to come up with the final UI spec. The impl probably will be easy.
Chris, when user hits File|New... menu item, should Folder or Package be listed in templates tree? If yes, then current state should be OK. Otherwise we would have two UIs for same thing. What I think should change is wording in the wizard panel where folder name is written. It should emphasize that folder is being created. Do you agree?
you're right, we want the folder and package in the file|new wizard. i also agree that the working in the wizard panel is not right. i haven't looked recently but the title bar should reflect the thing that is created (folder or package) as well as the steps and the labels for the input fields.
Changing to enhancement. Change of wording in second wizard panel should be reconsidered for all templates.
Target milestone was changed from '3.4' to TBD.
I am not understand about what we are speaking here? New From Template Wizard has a new implementation long time.
the new package and new folder dialogs were small dialogs that just asked for a name. having a full wizard pop up and ask for the same thing is a little over blown and is why this bug was opened. the smaller dialogs were used after the new wizard impl but i'm not exactly sure when it was first changed over...
