snapshots of ide code for java, html and xml

Code formatting and font setting in NetBeans IDE does not work for xml code.
Comment 1 tutankhamun 2010-05-29 16:11:22 UTC
The current issue is also in NetBeans 6.8 Windows platform edition.
Comment 2 Sergey Lunegov 2010-05-29 16:15:25 UTC
This is not clear how to reproduce this issue. Please specify platform, JDK version etc. Also please attach xml file where do you the issue.
Comment 3 tutankhamun 2010-05-29 16:25:11 UTC
Please try to create an XML file in the NetBEans IDE and you will see that it is not properly formatted.

Just right click on any package and do the following:

NEW -> Xml Document
Click NEXT
Choose well formed document
FINISH

I attached screenshots of the IDE view

I downloaded an OS independent version of Netbeans 6.9 as well as Netbeans 6.8

My JDK is 6...17

I am currently using Windows 7 64 on an intel duo core HP PAvillion dv9000 series computer with 3Gigs of ram

This bug is not reproduced on:
Product Version: NetBeans IDE Dev (Build 201005260001)
Java: 1.6.0_18; Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM 16.0-b13
System: Windows XP version 5.1 running on x86

A new .xml file was created and it was formatted properly (see the attached screenshot "screenshot_new_xml.PNG").
Please update NB 6.9 version or reinstall it.

I am sorry, but the response I got for my enquiry was "works for me".

I qualify this response as not professional at all. If the current candidate release works on your system, then please enlighten me by sending me equivalent screenshots of what I sent you; and by providing me with your system details as well, and maybe consider escalating this issue with the release candidate.

I am not stripping the Netbeans IDE apart, just using it as it is and testing the expected functionalities (in this case "creating" a simple xml document from scratch).

By the way, I have the same issues on a different plaform as well, which brings me to the conclusion that you are probably not investigating my enquiry.
Comment 7 Sergey Lunegov 2010-06-07 08:10:11 UTC
The screenshot of XML editor was sent to you. The rest of your screenshots (java and html) demonstrate that IDE works correct. So I don't see the reason to send them again. The problem you complain relates to XML editing. If I got it correctly you can reproduce the problem on NB 6.8. We will not produce special patch to fix this issue for NB 6.8. So the question is: can you reproduce the issue with NB 6.9 ?
Comment 8 tutankhamun 2010-06-07 11:45:30 UTC
The reason for sending the screen shots of the html and java codes was to show that they worked and that there was a problem with the xml editor (i.e for comparison's sake).

The issue was reproduced in the 6.9 version of Netbeans as well (please refer to product version in the initial bug log).

I went on to verify any interactions between versions of Netbeans even following dis-installation of an anterior version, and found out that:

There are files left behind that needed to be deleted manually, particularly the ".netbeans" folder, and ".nbi" folder

Following this manual operation, and the installation of the NetBeans development build 20100605001, this bug was no longer existent.

Conclusion: The xml bug exists in NetBeans 6.8, and even following uninstalling it, folders and files are left behind and through interaction, make it transferable to NetBeans 6.9

Suggestion: If NetBeans 6.9 is capable of removing those folders (.netbeans, and .nbi) of its predecessor prior to installation, then there shouldn't be any issues that could undermine the quality of the new soon-to-be-released version of the NetBeans IDE.

Thank you for your patience.

Ok. Got it. Let us to look at this deeper (install 6.8 and then to use 6.9) but mots probably we'll resolve it as WILLNOTFIX.

I've checked this bug again using the following steps:

1. Install NB 6.8 (http://netbeans.org/downloads/index.html)
2. Start NB 6.8:
Product Version: NetBeans IDE 6.8 (Build 200912041610)
   Java: 1.6.0_14; Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM 14.0-b16
System: Linux version 2.6.18-8.el5 running on i386

Create a new XML file (see the screen shot "screenshot-nb68_newXML.png").
3. Uninstall NB 6.8 without removing special folders created by the NB 6.8 installer (see the attached screen shot "screenshot-nb68_uninstaller.png")
4. Install NB 6.9 RC2 (http://dlc.sun.com.edgesuite.net/netbeans/6.9/rc/)
5. Start NB 6.9 without importing of settings from NB 6.8 folders (see the attached screen shot "screenshot-nb69_no_import_nb68_settings.png"):
Product Version: NetBeans IDE 6.9 RC2 (Build 201005312001)
   Java: 1.6.0_14; Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM 14.0-b16
System: Linux version 2.6.18-8.el5 running on i386

Create a new XML file (see the attached screen shot "screenshot-nb69_newXML.png").

Result:
both new XML files are formatted properly.
