Today (after opening some files), the scanning-projects starts (that was ok because NB was running over the night) and doesn´t end. I was waiting more then 2.5 hours. I'm not sure what happened, but the snapshot shows almost no activity in scanning. Precisely RepositoryUpdater$Task took 3781ms, which is 0.1% of the overall time. Also from the log file I can see that the initial scan took approximately 2 minutes: Complete indexing of 17 binary roots took: 99407 ms Complete indexing of 3 source roots took: 14812 ms (New or modified files: 0, Deleted files: 0) There is much more activity in the log file after the initial scan, but I assume this is because you started using the IDE. Are you sure that the scanning was running? I have a suspicion that sometime the progress bar gets stuck and says 'Scanning projects...', even though the scanning has already finished.

It look´s this because there´s less IO- and CPU - activity and the exit-Button works fast.

Created attachment 92376 [details] jstacks while closing I tried to restart the IDE. After about 10 Minutes, the exit-action was succuessfull. I made two jstacks while this time.

The problem with exiting the IDE is the same as in issue #174884 - BinaryAnalyser can't be interrupted.

Re comment #12 - caused by BinaryAnalyzer as described in issue #174884. Re comment #14 - no activity in scanning, so from my point of view this is unrelated to this issue.

The problem with BinaryAnalyzer has been resolved by http://hg.netbeans.org/main/rev/e89e396f1de5, see issue #178999. Maybe the fix also resolved the problems described here.
Bug prior to 7.0, not touched for the last 2 years --> P4.
Probably fixed in NB 7.2
