UltraEdit has this mode and it is a great productivity enhancer. It allows me to vertically input a bunch of identical characters or even assign an incrementing sequential numbers. A hot key (Alt-C) toggles you in/out of column-mode. See the following URL http://www.ultraedit.com/support/tutorials_power_tips/ultraedit/column_mode.html
Thanks for the RFE, the 'column mode' looks like a nice feature to have.
Agreed +1 vote. Rectangular Edit Tool = not the same thing at all. :-(
Hello; This is a feature in Slick-Edit, and in Multi-Edit. Can it be retained as an option as it is in those editors? Thanks for considering my input. Sincerely; Harold Foster. haroldlfoster@verizon.net
Many of our customers use this feature for embedded development, so it would need to be useable also in the C/C++ plugin. Do you have an idea when this might be added. Thanks
Comment #3 From HaroldFoster@netbeans.org 2010-09-08 03:59:40(-) Regarding Column mode editing. Forgot to vote. I've kept both Multi-Edit and Slick-Edit in good part because it has Column mode Editing. In Slick-Edit under Emulation: radio button for Slick Edit (Text Mode Edition) Thanks again. Harold Foster.
I just stop by the Netbeans demo booth at JavaOne and reminded the folks of this feature. Hope to see it implemented soon.
I hope this is appropriate: I'd like to enhance my explanation/definition of the original Enhancement request. In Slick-edit, the following yields the desired result: Tools, Options, Emulation, [x]"SlickEdit (Text Mode Edition)" This puts Slick-edit in Text Mode Edition (Slick Edit Circa 1995) Code::Blocks now supports what they're calling "virtual space." In Code::Blocks the following yields the desired result: Settings Editor Margins and carets (second from the last check-box): [x] Enable virtual space (space beyond the end of line) Thanks; Harold F.
Please have a look at this one - it might be related to Issue 13857.
I don't see difference between proposed tool and implementation of netbeans rectangular selection
