When the Search Filesystems dialog is first shown, there are radio buttons for things like whether to search with a substring or regular expression. One of these radio buttons should be chosen by default.
When you start typing into a field the appropriate radio button is automatically choosen.
I'm sorry to be a nuisance here, but if there are radio buttons, one really should be selected initially. There should never be a set of radio buttons which don't have one of them selected. (I've also changed this to a target of 3.4, as it certainly doesn't need to be fixed for 3.3)
This is as designed. No radio button is selected, because neither 'substring' nor 'regular expresion' is used and at first time 'Full Text' is not used for searching. So this is correct behaviour.
As I said above, it is wrong to have a set of radio buttons with none of them chosen. On general UI design principles, any set of radio buttons must always have one item chosen. In addition, when I display the "search filesystems" dialog, my cursor is initially placed in the "substring" text field, so there is no reason not to have the corresponding radio button chosen. The same holds true for the Date and Object Type tabs. I am sorry if I seem to be stubborn here over a minor detail. It is just that there really should never be a set of radio buttons where none of the buttons is chosen.
I am not sure, if it is possible to have selected one from set of radio buttons. But it looks you want to change your opinion, so I fixed it -- I do not want to for ever close and reopen this issue. :-)
Verified in release34 and dev [200304300100].
Resolved for 3.4.x or earlier, no new info since then -> closing.
