Open Tools > Options > Fonts and Colors.
The selected item is "Whitespace" and the list of available things to set something on is scrolled to the bottom.

Several times I have accidentally set the font for "Whitespace" thinking I was setting it for "Default".  In previous
versions, "Default" was the initial selection;  probably a 1-line fix to correct this.
