I have used netbeans for a while now and really like it. However, the current order of the open file tabs is not very helpful to me. I have been told there are ways to jump around to the most recent edited file and things, but I think it would be generally handy if they were sortable. If I have 20 or so files open on Friday and then quit netbeans and come back on Monday and reopen netbeans the files might as well be in random order, since I don't usually commit to memory the order I opened the files in. Usually in this type of case I would close the editor and reopen the files I was working on...and inconvenience. So I purpose a sort order. The only order I can really see as pratical is to put them in alphabetical order when a file is opened or renamed. This could be made into an option, so if there are those who like the current order, they can keep using it the way it is. Another possible order is last used order, but I think that would be awkward.

Set target milestone to TBD
Alphabetical order is fine. Would be great if this got implemented in NB 3.5
It's getting really annoying trying to find files on those tabs. Why can't this be done?
Might I propose a GUI mechanism? How about a right-click on the unused "tab area" to get a pop-up menu for "sort order". I'd also like to see sort order include: by name, by extension (type), by directory (source file path), open order, or unordered (the default). Of course, subsorts should be used as appropriate (by extension should subsort using filename). An alternative would be to allow the user to drag tabs to a new position, and ensure that NB remembers the order. A keyboard mechanism to move a tab around would be sufficient too. These are just suggestions from another NB user who agrees with the submitter's frustrations. Thanks.
Better navigation system between open files in editor was implemented in windowing system for 3.6.
