1. Connect to some DB. 2. Rightclick some table and choose "View Data...". Result: Data is shown, but rows and columns aren't separated by lines. Such issue was fixed before, but probably for other platforms, since I still don't have line separators on Windows XP. I saw them some time ago.
We show the table in alternate colors for rows, we don't show the lines. If you persist we can add the lines for windows, but I think it looks better without the lines.
Yes, I see now, but the difference in colors isn't enough. At least for me it looks like one color (look attached screenshot).
Created attachment 71212 [details] Screenshot of badly separated table.
Roman, there is differentiation. Alternate rows appear in light blue. In any case, I don't think this is a P2. It should be P3 in my opinion.
I agree with jayashri, it should be P3. Roman, I can see the alternate color very clearly in your attached image, I would like to see others opinion on this before I add the lines to separate rows.
It's not necessary to add lines if we have different way of separation, but at least for me on my Windows XP I can't clearly see separation between rows. It can be hard to look through the data and understand which data belongs to which row. And customers can have different color scheme and it's possible that some of them won't see table as you see, so I think it will be better to add lines and in this case table view won't depend on customer color scheme.
I am very hesitant to add back the line, it will defeat the purpose of adding alternate colors. To me, the alternate color with now line separator for rows (iTunes Table style) is more readable and looks elegant, I need few more opinion to change my mind. Since Roman has said, it is not necessary to add lines, marking this as P3.
I can differentiate between the two rows in the attached image and my Mac. Since we have differing opinions here, we can get feedback from HIE and do the right thing in next release.
Sounds good, can you have them review this...
I also tried on Mac OS X, and I see the difference, but it isn't so strong. And this approach depends on color scheme of customer. Probably not so good.
Since there is no final decision about fix, I remove status whiteboard. But it doesn't mean that we shouldn't fix this issue. I'll be watching it. :)
Based on the following discussion, I think this issue was is no longer valid. ------- I have Mac OS X and WinXP. On WinXP, the colors actually seem better to me. The blue seems more muted (much less saturated). On the Mac, the blue seems a little too bold, especially with the aliased text - but I'm being picky here. Have a lot of our users complained about this? Mike Roman Mostyka wrote: > Yes, I'm also talking about this issue. What platform do you use? This is a common design pattern. Alternate row shading has proven to be effective in allowing the users' eyes to follow a particular row of data from column to column across a table without the need for row separator lines. Additionally the pattern itself has proven to draw the users' focus to the table containing it. Sometimes that is not desirable, but in this case it seems to be. >>>> I don't know if there has been a lot of negative feedback related to the current implementation, but if there has been, it may be due to the row color choices >>> And this was the point. In the begging I didn't see that colors are different for rows and therefore I filed an issue. Table looked for me as one white box. And as I wrote in issue's comments, I agree not to add line separators, but colors should be more different. >>> >>> Thanks, >>> Roman. >>>> and/or the aliased type. >>>> >>>> Mike >>>> >>>> >>>> >>>> David Van Couvering wrote: >>>>> Hi, Mike, can you review this issue and provide your comments.
