Description briankessler 2008-09-06 23:05:53 UTC
I've been trying to teach myself UML and was excited to learn that Netbeans offers a UML Tool.

Unfortunately, I can't seem to get it to work.

I go to create a new project, I select a UML type and then get to the dialog where you specify the Name and Location.
I fill out the form and click finish.

After this, nothing happens. The form remains on the screen. I can use the back button, etc. but the Finish button
becomes disabled.

If I check the Project Location, I can see that some files have been put into place, but if (after aborting the new
project dialog) I try to open the project, the IDE freezes at 50% and I must use Windows task manager to kill the IDE.

It may be significant that if I go into Netbeans IDE and select UML, the panel doesn't change to display a related
dialog.

I have tried disabling and reenabling the UML plugin, uninstalling and reinstalling the plugin, even uninstalling,
deleting it's directory, and then reinstalling the plugin. Regardless, the results are the same.

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

Have you been able to create any other types of projects, such as a java application project for example?

Also, we could use a couple of other pieces of information to help debug your problem:

1) A copy of your IDE log file. It can be found in your <userdir>\var\log\messages.log.

2) A thread dump taken at the time the IDE freezes. The easiest way to do this is to run nb.exe rather than the
standard netbeans.exe command. This will launch a command window along with the IDE. When you encounter the freeze, go
to the command window and type in ctrl-break.

Thanks,
George

Thanks for filing the issue.
I haven't seen a problem like this. I just tried and could not reproduce. Could you provide the following detail so I
can try to reproduce the problem.
- JDK version
- plain NB 6.1 or with a patch, eg, patch 1, 2 or 3?
- when ide hangs again, could you get the stack dump during the hang and attach it to this issue

it may be possible to download uml zip and try. also it's not clear what kind of project fails.
have no ideas yet what may cause the problem and can't reproduce.

Same problem on Ubuntu 8.10 with NetBeans 6.5. and 6.5.1.
